BuildPro, a custom iOS and Android app built with React Native and Firebase, gives Renuity's field installers clear schedules, direct access to assigned work and accurate time tracking in one tool.

Renuity BuildPro project

The challenge

Renuity identified the need to optimize and digitize the operations of its field installers to improve efficiency, time management and communication with customer information. The specific challenge was to update the existing mobile app for installers, providing key functionality that would allow:

  • Clear schedule view: An intuitive calendar so installers can easily access their scheduled visits.
  • Work assignment management: Direct access to assigned tasks, linked to relevant customer information (contact details, project details, etc.).
  • Precise time tracking: An efficient time logging system to monitor the duration of tasks performed on each visit.

The solution

The development of the "Buildpro" app was approached through a collaborative, user-centered process, which included a fundamental Discovery phase to ensure the project's success.

This initial stage focused on thoroughly understanding the needs, workflows and pain points of Renuity's installers. The following activities were carried out:

  • Stakeholder meetings: Detailed sessions with Renuity executives to understand the project's strategic goals and the app's expectations.
  • User interviews (installers): Direct interactions with installers in the field to learn about their daily challenges, how they used the existing app (if there was one) and their specific needs for schedule management, customer information and time tracking. The aim was to identify friction points and opportunities to improve their processes.
  • Workflow analysis: Detailed mapping of installers' operational processes, from receiving the assignment to completing the job, to identify critical points where digitization could add the most value.
  • Definition of functional and non-functional requirements: Based on the information gathered, the functionality the new app had to include (calendar, customer management, time tracking) and the non-functional requirements (performance, security, usability) were clearly defined and prioritized.
  • Low-fidelity prototyping (wireframes): Sketches and simple prototypes of the user interface were developed to validate ideas and navigation flows with stakeholders and users, obtaining early feedback to iterate on the design.

Our approach

  • Stakeholder meetings with Renuity executives on strategic goals and expectations for the app.
  • Interviews with field installers about daily challenges, current app usage and their needs for schedule management, customer information and time tracking.
  • Workflow analysis that mapped installer processes to find digitization opportunities.
  • Requirements definition: functional (calendar, customer management, time tracking) and non-functional (performance, security, usability).
  • Low-fidelity prototypes and wireframes to validate ideas and navigation flows with stakeholders and users.
